Honor 5C Launched in India for Rs.10,999

Honor finally launched their new mid-segment smartphone Honor 5C in India. The launch event took place in New Delhi on June 22 with the hashtag #DareToPerform. The phone packs Kirin 650 16nm processor which according to Honor, is the fastest processor in this segment. We got to hang out with the device a week prior to the launch and below is what we think about it.

Honor 5C :  Specifications and Features

Hardware & Design

Honor 5C sports a metal unibody design. It is made of aluminium alloy and feels very good in hands. The smartphone packs a 5.2-Inch IPS LCD Full HD Display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 424 ppi. The design is very premium and non-slippery, thanks to the metal body.

Under the hood, Honor 5C packs HiSilicon Kirin 650 Octa-Core chipset (2.0 GHz Quad-core Cortex-A53 + 1.7 GHz Quad Core Cortex A53) with 2GB RAM and Mali-T880MP2 GPU. The internal storage provided by Honor is 16 GB (There is no 32 GB variant) which can be expanded using microSD card (uses SIM slot 2) up to 256 GB.

One of the best things about Honor 5C is its camera. On the back side, there is a 13 Megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, LED Flash and autofocus. The camera is capable of shooting Full HD 1080p videos at 30 frames per second. The front camera is an 8 Megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture. The interesting thing about Honor 5C is that it comes with a full-fledged pro mode with manual settings. You can now adjust shutter speed, exposure times, type of focus etc. These advanced settings let you control your camera the way you want and helps you in shooting breathtaking pictures.

Connectivity & Fingerprint Scanner

Honor 5C comes with a Dual-SIM support, it has a Nano SIM slot and a hybrid SIM slot which can also be used as a microSD card slot and supports microSD card up to 256 GB. On the back side, there is a fingerprint sensor which is surprisingly fast and accurate. The sensor has a mirror finish which looks quite good. Honor 5C comes with lots of connectivity options including Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi, GPS with A-GPS & BDS support, microUSB v2.0 etc. For music connectivity, there is a 3.5mm jack for headphones. Honor 5C also supports FM Radio.

Software & Battery

Honor 5C comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box topped with EMUI or Emotion UI 4.1 which is the new OS from Honor. Honor 5C packs 3000 mAh battery which is non-removable. According to Honor, the new Kirin chip will improve battery life of the device and make it last long.

I am really impressed with Honor 5C, it's a premium phone with premium features and not so premium price. The device will be available via flash sales starting June 30 on Flipkart. Honor 5C is priced at Rs.10,999 in India and in order to participate in the flash sale, you need to register yourself for 30th June sale on Flipkart. The second flash sale will be held on 7th July 2015. The device gives competition to Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, LeEco Le 2, Yu Yunicorn etc.
